I wrote today in Politico about how Obama has always wanted, not to “pivot to Asia” but to “pivot at home,” and this isn’t working out well:
…even if the president is entirely focused on domestic matters, he lacks the ability to win any significant legislative victories there. Usually, presidents blocked by the other party look to international affairs to enhance their stature. Obama has been gradually liquidating our position abroad, while his domestic agenda is permanently stalled.
Obama is at what Abraham Lincoln once referred to during his career in Illinois, using steamboat lingo, as a “dead point” — weak abroad, frustrated at home and looking at a brutal November.
