Texas Tech Invites Rice for Future Commencement Speaker Spot

Text

Condoleezza Rice may no longer be speaking at a Rutgers University’s commencement ceremony this month, but she could have a spot at Texas Tech University in the future.

After the former secretary of state opted to back out amid controversy among students and faculty at Rutgers, Texas Tech chancellor Kent Hance invited Rice to Lubbock to speak at a future graduation event for the upcoming summer, fall, or spring semester; if she accepted, Rice could speak in either August 2014, December 2014, or May 2015, respectively.

Rice has spoken at other college commencement ceremonies in the past, including Boston College in 2006 and Southern Methodist University in 2012.

San Antonio Express-News reports that Rice has not yet responded to Hance’s invitation.
