In his latest Koch-binge tirade, Harry Reid voiced support for a constitutional amendment brought forward by two other Democratic senators to reverse the Supreme Court’s Citizens United v. FEC decision, which would allow Congress to limit campaign contributions.
“Let’s keep our elections from becoming speculative ventures for the wealthy, and put a stop to the hostile takeover to our democratic process by a couple of billionaire oil barons,” he said on the Senate floor on Thursday.
Introduced by Michael Bennet of Colorado and Tom Udall of New Mexico, Reid called on his colleagues to support the amendment, for which the Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing.
During his remarks, Reid revisited many of his favorite tropes against the Kochs, and criticized the brothers’ father, Fred C. Koch, for his role in the founding of the John Birch Society.
“There is absolutely no question the Koch brothers in a category of their own — no one else is pumping into shadowy campaign organizations or campaigns like they are,” he said. “There isn’t even a close second.”
