Boehner on Shinseki’s Resignation: ‘Today’s Announcement Really Changes Nothing’

Veterans Affairs secretary Eric Shinseki’s resignation won’t do much, if anything at all, about the fatal mismanagement at the department, Speaker John Boehner said on Friday.

“Until the president outlines a vision and an effective plans for addressing the broad dysfunction at the VA, today’s announcement really changes nothing,” he told reporters. “One personnel change cannot be used as an excuse to paper over a systemic problem.”

Boehner called on the Senate to pass the VA Accountability Act, which would make it easier to terminate senior department employees. The bill passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support.
