Jay Carney Stepping Down as Press Secretary

President Obama interrupted Friday’s White House press briefing to announce that Jay Carney would step down as White House Press Secretary next month.

This is the second resignation in the Obama administration today. Veterans Affairs secretary Eric Shinseki announced his resignation Friday morning after reports that veterans’ appointments were manipulated at more than 60% of VA health facilities.

Obama said that Josh Earnest, the principal deputy press secretary, will take over when Carney vacates the role in mid-June.

When asked what the future holds, Carney answered: “I might manage my son’s band.”
