Pollster: Joni Ernst Cruising to Big Win in Iowa Senate Primary
A pollster who has been following the Republican primary to replace retiring senator Tom Harkin (D., Iowa) for the last couple weeks, including exit polling today, tells NRO that Joni Ernst is cruising to a big win. Mark Jacobs, Ernst’s opponent, has pursued an “aggressive, under-the-radar mail campaign [in an attempt to] raise enough doubts in voters’ minds to clip her momentum at the finish line,” according to U.S. News.
It didn’t work, according to the pollster, who said he’s seen a “clear but gradual” trend in Ernst’s favor over the last couple weeks, which has sped up in the final days of the race. Ernst needs 35 percent of the vote to win the nomination outright; the pollster’s numbers put her close to 50 percent with a 20-point lead over her next opponent.
