A Devastating Rebuke of Thad Cochran

Chris McDaniel didn’t win outright, but he narrowly bested Thad Cochran and now we’re headed to a run-off because neither of them got 50 percent. Eliana has the details in a report here. The bottom line is that it is a devastating rebuke if you’ve been a senator from a state for 40 years and can’t manage to get to 50 percent in a primary. And this after the Cochran campaign milked the nursing-home story for all it was worth over the last few weeks. I have my qualms about McDaniel, but there is no doubt that it was a terrible night for Cochran, and the run-off is probably going to be even tougher for him.
