Krauthammer’s Take: Arming the Syrian Opposition Will Do ‘Probably Nothing’

by NRO Staff

The U.S. missed its best opportunity to fight Syria’s Assad regime and the country’s radical rebels two years ago, “when Assad was reeling,” Charles Krauthammer said on Special Report.

He was unenthusiastic about President Obama’s $500 million plan to train and arm vetted members of the Syrian opposition to stave off civil war that has also bolstered the al-Qaeda-inspired insurgency in Iraq.

When asked what he thought the program would accomplish in the Syrian civil war, Krauthammer replied, “Probably nothing, but it’s worth a try, because it’s all we have.”
