Prime minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan “completely” stood by comments comparing Israel’s response to Gaza to Nazi Germany’s “barbarism.”
“Because Nazism, the fascism that was applied by Hitler, if you put all these on the table just like that, you can see that what Israel does to Palestine, to Gaza right now has surpassed what Hitler did to them,” he told CNN International in an exclusive interview that aired on Thursday.
Erdogan accused Israel of a “massacre” and “genocide,” and questioned whether Israel had a true desire to reach a ceasefire or two-state solution.
“It’s beyond comprehension that Israel is defended by the West, and the world is silent about it — we cannot remain silent about it, and we will not remain silent about it,” he said. “Israel is a terror state — they’re creating a wave of terror with what they’re doing now.”
He added that his concerns about the conflict are among the issues that keep him up at night.
