A loosening of U.S. immigration policy will send signals to Central Americans watching the country for any signs of easier entry, according to Charles Krauthammer Monday on Fox News.
Should President Obama give temporary legal status to the millions of undocumented immigrants currently in the U.S., the policy will go “from de facto legalization to de jure,” Krauthammer said. “That’s a big deal.”
The difference will be apparent, he continued, in the reaction from potential immigrants waiting in Central America. However, Krauthammer explained that he isn’t opposed to legalizing those undocumented immigrants here now, it would just have to come after border security had been beefed up, to withstand the inevitable surge.
He suggested one way to improve border security would be to install a fence, saying, “There’s a fence around the White House after all, and it works.”
