President Obama has failed to give the growing threat in Iraq the necessary attention, particularly since it could have been anticipated, according to John Boehner.
“It’s not like we haven’t seen this problem coming for a year; it’s not like we haven’t seen over the last five or six month, these terrorists moving in, taking control of western Iraq,” the speaker said during his weekly press briefing. “Now, they’ve taken control of Mosul, now they’re 100 miles from Baghdad, and what’s the president doing? Taking a nap.”
Boehner declined to say whether the United States should use air strikes to hold back the Islamist insurgents, but he supported providing the Iraqi government with its requested equipment and technical assistance.
