We’re Seeing Robust Jobs Growth for the First Time in a Long Time

by Patrick Brennan

Or we have been for the past six months or so, and that’s great news. The BLS’s announcement this morning that 288,000 jobs were added last month and the unemployment rate dropped to 6.1 percent — because of jobs growth, the labor-force-participation rate held steady — is cause for celebration. Not just because it’s one good report, but because it’s the continuation of a strong trend over the past few months.

Unfortunately, there are some downsides to June’s jobs report — there are signs that the Obamacare employer mandate could be forcing more growth in part-time jobs than full-time ones, and wages aren’t rising. More on this at the Agenda.
