Rick Perry: ‘There Can Be No Homeland Security Without Border Security”

by Joel Gehrke

Governor Rick Perry (R., Texas) told conservative activists that “there can be no homeland security without border security” as he denounced President Obama’s border policies.

“For years, we have had a serious security problem along our border with Mexico,”  Perry said at the 2014 RedState Gathering in Fort Worth.

“As a direct result of this administration’s naive policies, poor enforcement, failed leadership, we’re now faced with an unnecessary humanitarian crisis,” he added. “my heart goes out to those young children who are making these perilous journeys, who are often abused and misused and placed into recruitment by these drug cartels and gangs. And we’ve got to do everything we can to reunite them with their families back in their home countries because it is the right thing to do.”

Perry told the crowd of an off-duty border patrol agent who was murdered by an illegal immigrant as he said that many of the people coming to the country are not actually unaccompanied children.

“This violence will not stand. If Washington won’t act to secure the border, as the governor of Texas, I will,” Perry said. “That’s why I ordered 1,000 National Guard troops to stop the flow of illegal activity along the border.”
