I’m sure there are lots of ways to prove that your powers of judgment have been utterly lost to liberal hyper-partisanship in the Trump era, but describing David Gelernter as “fiercely anti-intellectual,” as this Washington Post article does, has got to be pretty high on the list.
Gelernter, a pioneering computer scientist at Yale, author of an extraordinary range of books, and about the most learned person you could hope to find in the wild, is apparently being considered for the role of White House science advisor. But it seems he has written critically about both Barack Obama and liberal academics. Worse yet, the Post’s Sarah Kaplan informs us, “Andrew Rosenberg, director of the Center for Science and Democracy at the Union of Concerned Scientists, said he hadn’t heard of Gelernter until Tuesday.” Imagine that. And there’s more:
“He’s certainly not mainstream in the science community or particularly well known,” Rosenberg said. “His views even on most of the key science questions aren’t known. Considering the huge range of issues the White House needs to consider, I don’t know if he has that kind of capability.”
Well that settles it. Philistine.
