The Next Big Issue


The war aside, what will be the biggest domestic issue of the next presidential campaign? Health insurance? Social Security reform? Would you believe gay marriage? It could happen. Here’s how. The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts will soon be hearing a case much like the one that led to civil unions in Vermont, with the difference that not civil unions, but fully legal gay marriage could be the outcome. The case will probably be decided in the summer of 2003. The Massachusetts high court is very liberal, and there is now tremendous momentum behind the plaintiffs in the case.
