The Corner

The one and only.

On The Ground in Mass.

What will happen if the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court legalizes gay marriage next summer? I’ve already shown how the legalization of gay marriage in even a single state will initiate a massive legal battle and a national culture war. There will be law suits arguing that the federal Constitution forces recognition of gay marriage on every state, even the many that have constitutional prohibitions on gay marriage. All this will give a huge boost to the campaign for the Federal Marriage Amendment. Right now, politicians want nothing to do with this issue, but if the Massachusetts court legalizes gay marriage, every politician in the country may be forced to take a stand. And the maneuvering over court cases and the Federal Marriage Amendment will play out throughout the presidential campaign.
