Dodging a Bullet

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Manchester (N.H.) has avoided criminal indictment on child endangerment charges by reaching a settlement with the state attorney general. The agreement acknowledges that the Church would probably have been found guilty of crimes having to do with priests molesting children. Bishop John B. McCormack of Manchester was previously a top aide to Boston Cardinal Bernard Law. Under the terms of the agreement, the diocese will have to make public all its files on priest sexual misconduct.
