The Corner

The one and only.

Next revelation: Trent Lott penned “Singing Senators” tune, rendition of “I Will Always Love You,” about the Thurmond presidency that never was. Reportedly then-Senator Ashcroft deemed it insensitve; Lott accused Ashcroft of wanting to “cover up” the rich Confederate history and called him a “Nazi.” Jim Jeffords threatened to switch parties over it, although who he was siding with was unclear. Lott considered reviving the lost song earlier this fall when Saddam Hussein chose “I Will Always Love You” for his “campaign” song, but his staff managed to talk him out of it. Jeffords suggested to Lott that AG might throw him in jail for it, if ever released.
(N.B. This is a (very bad) parody.)
