Al Gore

Breaking on the wires:

Former Vice President Al Gore, who announced Sunday night that he would not seek the presidency in 2004 declared today that he is legally changing his name to “Al Gate.” Insiders say one of the chief reasons he wanted to run in 2004 was that he liked the rhyming scheme of “Gore in ‘04!” As a consolation for not running, his wife Tipper suggested the name change. “Let’s just hope he wins in 2008,” an aide close to Gate said. “‘Al Gwelve’ sounds just awful.”
