No Derbyshires, But...


John, modest folk that we were, our family was always taught not to discuss such matters. Suffice to say, even if we have nothing to compare with the vast Derbyshire legacy of empire, the Stuttafords played a distinguished, if not always very martial, part in the imperial enterprise. If military credentials are important to you, however, I am told that my great-grandfather, William, was a captain in at least one of the colonial campaigns in southern Africa…
