Yet this has happened under the Patriot Act.” I didn’t know that Patriot allowed this sort of thing. I called the Justice Department, and they’re not aware that it does either. Two American citizens have been held as enemy combatants for the duration of hostilities, and whether that is accurately characterized as “indefinitely” can be debated. But that has nothing to do with the Patriot Act.
