Heading in the Wrong Direction
The Washington Post’s Lori Montgomery has a telling piece on the still unseen reconciliation package that could enable the Democrats to pass their health-care bill. One of the oddities of reconciliation is that the vehicles must provide for deficit reduction. Under the rules the House reconciliation package is judged in this regard not in the abstract but vis a vis the Senate bill. But, as Montgomery pointed out, “virtually everything House Democrats want to achieve in their package costs money” and thus they keep heading in the wrong direction.
