DNC Nothingburger

The DNC has put out a scare ad highlighting the “cost of doing nothing” on health care, and blaming Republicans for playing politics and vowing to kill reform. The ad shows some extremely stressed out people, presumably worried about health costs, while a female narrator talks about the problems of rising costs in health care. Usually, these ads consist of some tiny fact buried somewhere in the hyperbolized accusation. In this one, I’m not even sure that there is a fact at the heart of the attack. Republicans are not for doing nothing, but are against a specific set of proposals. In fact, Gov. Bobby Jindal recently proposed a helpful set of bipartisan steps that would get at the problems of high cost and limited access without all of the other negative consequences of the House Democratic proposal. And if the Democrats can’t pass something with control of the White House, a majority in the House, and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, that is not exactly the Republicans’ fault.
