McCurry's Stonewall
"We are rallying around the Arkansan the way the Confederacy rallied around the Virginians around Bull Run," quoth the presidential spokesman on Thursday. He was referring to an apocryphal quote by Gen. Barnard Bee that gave another Confederate General his nickname. According to James McPherson's Battle Cry of Freedom, the full quote is: "There is Jackson standing like a stone wall. Rally behind the Virginians."

Listen to the Lady
Nobody else seems to have noticed it, but the First Lady's conspiracy theorizing included an argument that could boomerang against her husband. On Good Morning America she said, "One of my husband's favorite old Southern sayings . . . is, 'If you find a turtle on a fencepost, it didn't get there by accident.' And I just look at the landscape around here and I see lots of big old turtles sitting on lots of fenceposts and I think we need to find out how all those old turtles got on those fenceposts." Oh, so circumstantial evidence should be considered dispositive now? Is Mrs. Clinton sure she wants the public to apply that standard to the latest allegations against her husband?
