CSPAN pulls its missile-defense ad from CNN.

By NR's Ramesh Ponnuru & John J. Miller

he Coalition to Protect Americans Now pulled its missile-defense ad from CNN earlier this week before it had even aired because the news channel couldn't guarantee a slot on Inside Politics. "We decided not to go forward," says CPAN's executive director Tom Mead.

The ad had not been formally approved for airing and it did not appear on CNN's domestic broadcasts, although CPAN had submitted it for review. The group's ad campaign ran its course on Monday, and it didn't want to purchase additional time later in the week, says Mead. Last week, CNN's international division refused to run CPAN ads.

"We're planning to go back on the air and we'll go back to CNN," says Mead. CPAN is currently developing a new ad in support of missile defense and may buy more time in July to coincide with the next national missile-defense intercept test.

"The ad was under consideration. If they resubmit it, we'll consider it again," a Turner Broadcasting spokesman told NR.

Thank You, Rick
President Clinton, at a signing ceremony attended by Rick Lazio and several other members of Congress, last December: "Representative Lazio, thank you, sir. ... I want to thank all of you for your leadership in the House."

The Republican Leadership Council cites this record to back up its forthcoming ad supporting Lazio's Senate candidacy against Hillary Clinton. The ad declares: "Even President Clinton repeatedly praised Lazio..."
