Love Story
Internet pornographers want Gore in the White House.

By NR's John J. Miller & Ramesh Ponnuru

fter shaking down Hollywood for some $13 million, Vice President Gore now waves around an FTC report lambasting the entertainment industry for how it markets products to children. That's bound to irritate the Left Coast, which is still annoyed by the Playboy Mansion snub. But at least one entertainment group continues its love affair with Gore and the Democrats: Internet pornographers.

Their IA2000 convention in New Orleans kicks off a week from Friday, and the first seminar is called "Adult Community Meeting: Vote Democratic!" A description of the event, from the group's website: "Join respected attorney Paul Cambria for a special 'Adult Community Meeting' to address concerns over the upcoming Presidential election. A Republican or other conservative President and Congress could greatly hinder the success and growth of the adult Internet industry. Don't underestimate the ramifications of right wing government on your e-business or your power as a webmaster. As an individual who does business with hundreds — even thousands — of people on the World Wide Web, you can make a difference. Come together with other webmasters and industry leaders and learn what you can do to safeguard the future of the adult Internet industry."

No word yet on whether Gore will swing by to thank the group for its support.

Hitting the Big Time
When George W. Bush made his famous observation about New York Times reporter Adam Clymer's being an "a**hole," Dick Cheney responded, "Oh yeah, he is, big time." Maureen Dowd promptly labeled him "Big Time" Dick Cheney. The other day, Mickey Kaus gave Cheney some advice on what to do if the label sticks: "Embrace it! Use it! Make it your trademark phrase! . . . You can't fight these things. You have to adapt! If you repeat 'Big Time' often enough, and smile when you say it, everyone will forget where it comes from. . . . Even if they remember, it can be seen as gutsy, down-to-earth, defiant — yet charmingly self-deprecating. . . . you can't buy branding like that!"

Good idea. Maybe in his debate with Lieberman, Cheney should say, "Gore's a liberal. Big time." What should the theme music at Cheney's rallies be? Peter Gabriel's "Big Time," of course. . . . Speaking of the b-word, are Al Gore and Joe Lieberman now going to add "Big Hollywood" and the "Big Media" to their list of bad guys?
