BETA BYE-BYE
Vice President Gore named Christie Brinkley to his primary delegate slate in New York. How alpha. Grrr.
PETSMART
The new Zogby poll contains this little item: Pet owners prefer Republicans to Democrats in a generic Congressional ballot, 38 percent to 30 percent, with 30 percent undecided. Maybe all this talk coming out of the Gore campaign about alpha males, beta males, and challenging the top dog in the White House is really a subtle ploy to drive a wedge into a core GOP constituency.
UNZ OUT
Silicon Valley entrepreneur Ron K. Unz quit seeking the Republican Senate nomination in California today. He is the author of Proposition 227, the state initiative passed by voters last year eliminating bilingual education, as well as a campaign-finance reform measure that will appear on ballots next year. His departure makes Rep. Tom Campbell the frontrunner in the primary. May we be the first to suggest that Unz pursue the seat his neighbor Campbell is vacating?
