A White House that lives by the polls deserves to die by them. Although
it is true that 61 per cent of Americans oppose Clinton's impeachment,
according to the Washington Post/ABC News poll released on Tuesday, the
White House soon may find that the "wisdom of the American people" is
not necessarily a steadfast friend. The same survey also reveals that 58
per cent of the public thinks Clinton should resign from office if the
full House impeaches him. How wise is that?
Probably not wise enough for President Clinton. On Sunday in Israel, he
responded to a question about resignation: "It's never crossed my mind."
It's the truest thing he ever said.
