President Obama’s speech on the occasion of the Ramadan dinner in the White House presents difficulties that are becoming his trademark. Why does he find it necessary to be an apologist for Islam? He started it in his speech in Cairo a couple of years back, which also had elements that were downright creepy. Now he justifies the building of a mosque at Ground Zero because Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else. This is obviously true, but a mosque in this site of mass murder committed by Muslims is not about freedom of worship, it is a statement of supremacy and conquest. Non-Muslims are not allowed any place of worship in Saudi Arabia, and they cannot even approach within miles of the cities of Medina and Mecca. Imagine the outcry if Muslims were prevented entering, say, St Peter’s or Westminster Abbey. Yet Obama makes no mention of reciprocity, he passes over the insult and the abuse. Besides, there are plenty of instances when people do have a legal right for something but not the moral right to proceed, so that it is wise to abstain. If this mosque goes ahead, it will prove a constant source of division.
Obama also says in this speech that al-Qaeda’s cause is not Islam — “it is a gross distortion of Islam.” Why this defensiveness? There are plenty of passages in the Koran and the Hadith that al-Qaeda’s theologians can and do quote to give them religious justification for their violence. What Obama calls terror they consider faith, and this can’t be glossed over by the weasel word “distortion.” And he goes on that Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity. Try telling that to those condemned to death for converting to some other faith. Just as strange, he says that Islam has always been part of America — a line he used before, for instance in the Cairo speech. The evidence he gives for this is that Jefferson received the Tunisian ambassador of his day. That makes Islam part of America?
Finally he admits we are in a fight and says the reason we’ll win “is not simply the strength of our arms — it is the strength of our values, the democracy we uphold.” This in the week he’s just been rejoicing about imminently removing the strength of arms from Iraq, with Afghanistan to follow as soon as possible. Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, the Iranians going nuclear — are we to meet them with approval for a mosque at Ground Zero and babbling about upholding democracy? This speech sent a shiver of fear down my spine.
He's not apologizing, he's an active supporter of Islam (and communism) and is actively seeking to destroy our economic system:
-Andy McCarthy reports that the Treasury Department has promoted Sharia Complaint Finance for AIG (owned by the US Taxpayer), and that the federal government is defending the regulations in a Federal Court in Michigan
-Current support of the Victory Mosque
-Covering up Jesus at Georgetown last year.
-Holding Ramadan dinner at the White House.
-Michelle vacations in Marbella, which is in Andalusa, the focal point of Islamic power in Spain, after Islam conquered vast portions of southern Spain several centuries ago.
-Pictures of Mao on the White House Christmas Tree, Communist radical advisers by the dozens if not hundreds.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWhat is popularly characterized as his latest gaff is, in fact, political calculus. Obama's apology for the proposed mosque (read: "community center") at Ground Zero is an attempt to transform the debate to a lack of religious tolerance by conservatives / tea partiers / KKK / lunatics / Republicans (take your pick). It is simply another in a long list where he bares his ideological soul to the American public, and the World. Here, he is aiding and abetting the al Qeada propaganda ministry to create a shrine to their great victory on September 11, 2001, and, if built, that is how it will be played in the Middle East media. Through such demagoguery he seeks to divide his political opposition and conquer it. And although it began as a local zoning dispute, he has unnecessarily elevated it to a national debate. It is the moral equivalent of allowing the Japanese Emperor to build a shrine near Pearl Harbor to honor their war dead. Permissible, perhaps, under zoning laws, but despicable in any other sense.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe president still lives in the college campus world where Islamic terrorism is just a tantrum of oppressed people (oppressed by capitalism--you betcha). He seems to believe that the Muslim world hates us because they don't understand us. If he could just explain to the terrorists that we do not wish to hurt them everything would be fine (welcome back Carter).
While Bush and the with-us-or-with-them Republicans were alarmists, Obama believes himself a pragmatist and peacemaker. He knows the terrorist will never have the military might to defeat the US. He knows these are just a bunch of back-woods farmers who feel oppressed and lash out.
I've often wondered what it must have been like for Rome when Alaric showed up outside Rome's gates. How long had the elite of Rome looked at the barbarian tribes as not a real threat, more of minor nuisance? How long had Rome looked at the raids as just desperate people trying to feed their families? Did Rome believe a bunch of unwashed Visagoths could actually bring down the centuries-old symbol of power and civilations?
Rome fell because no one cared to defend the idea of Rome.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe War on Terror will not be won when the West has killed the last jihadi. It will never be possible to kill the last jihadi. The War on Terror will be won with truth. It will be won only when the Islamic world sees the truth, that Western liberal democracy is an objectively superior framework for human activity than the medieval superstitions of Wahhabism and the like. It follows that the only ultimately effective weapon in the War on Terror is to speak this truth. Like all similar mush-headed liberal ecumenical outbursts, President Obama's smoke screen about First Amendment rights is the enemy of that truth. His statements therefore set back the cause. They do not advance it.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAs Rush pointed out those who want to bridge the divide, and call for the Mosque to do that, have yet to offer to build a memorial for those killed by Islamists. That would be a much more useful way to show solidarity and sensitivity.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAs for Obama and his sudden discovery of first principles of our country, which he uses to defend the building of this mosque, where was this love of our Constitution when he forced Obamacare on us or when he was passing laws in the middle of the night or when he was bankrupting us by trampling on our rights and spending money like a crazy person? What happened to that living document he is always talking about? Only for those who want to foist Sharia law on us does he suddenly find a rigidity in our Constitution.
As Rush also pointed out, Netanyahu wants to continue to build houses IN HIS OWN COUNTRY and our president, Mr. "I am not like George Bush; I don't interfere in the internal workings of another free country", treated him more rudely than any other president ever treated an ally in our history. To Obama it might offend the sensitivities of some people to keep building these houses. Yet President Obama worries not a whit about the sensitivities of the families of those killed and injured on 9/11.
America, what is it going to take to make you understand what is going on?
Come on November!
President Obama’s handling of the “Ground Zero” Mosque is an act of diabolical genius. He has seized the topic and since it reflects poorly on him everyone is eager to pounce to talk about the “Right or Wrong” for building the Mosque and about the Constitution. The topic has changed and we’ve been so eager to do so we’ve lost sight of the really critical topic that preceded the Friday Night “Blunder”.
The State Department is flying the Mosque organizer, Imam Rauf of the Cordoba Institute on a tour of the Middle East. While we’re talking about President Obama why are we not talking about his raising funds on the tax payer dime in nations that have zero religious tolerance? Isn’t paying for the promotion of a mosque tantamount to sponsoring the creation of a religion and therefore a violation of church and state?
Imam Rauf and the Cordoba Institute have provided support for Hamas which is recognized by the State Department as a Terrorist Organization. By providing support for a group that supports Hamas, the State Department is indirectly supporting a terrorist Organization. If you look deeper into the words and deeds of Imam Rauf his moderate credentials are lost so the topic is dangerous and therefore has been hijacked to be about OUR alleged intolerance for violating the first amendment rights of Islamic Americans.
While everyone hops on the “Obama is an Idiot” bandwagon he sits back and shrugs it off because it is pretty clear he holds us Americans with contempt and disdain. Then the Left can rev up their engines and say we’re all racist and the really critical parts of the story will be lost in a sea of angst and anger.
