With Ukraine in turmoil and struggling to form a new government, Russian President Vladimir Putin has put his country’s military on alert.
The provocative move came amid ferocious debate on Wednesday about the future of Crimea, a pro-Russian peninsula here on Ukraine’s Black Sea coast.
“In accordance with an order from the president of the Russian Federation, forces of the Western Military District were put on alert at 14:00 (5 a.m. EST) today,” Interfax quoted Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu as saying. . .
