RU-DY! RU-DY! RU-DY!
“So long as President Bush is our president, is there any doubt that they will continue to hear from us?”
As Dan Patrick would say on SportsCenter, “Gone.” As in home run.
“Republicans in New York City! I finally feel at home!”
Seriously, Rudy makes most other politicians look like amateur speakers.
UPDATE: “Thank God Bush is our president, and thank God Dick Cheney, with his knowledge and his experience, is our vice president!”
“No matter what happens in this election, George W. Bush has already earned his place in history as a great American president.”
Now Giuliani is ripping Europe’s appeasement of terrorism, clearer and tougher than President Bush ever did.
Now he’s referring to Leon Klinghoffer and the hijacking of the Achille Lauro! A man who I had feared would be forgotten by history! I just wish Rudy had mentioned the fact that the terrorist behind it, Abu Abbas, the Palestinian terrorist who masterminded the 1985 hijacking was arrested by U.S. personnel in Iraq and died in captivity.
Maybe it's the down-to-earth tones of his New York accent. Maybe it's his humor (When the crowd boos Kerry's vote against the 1991 Gulf War, Rudy ad-libs, "He must have heard you booing!"). But he ranks up there as one of the GOP's best communicators.
Maybe he's president of "Two Americas" - one where he can vote for something, another one where he can vote against the very same thing.
UPDATE II: The story about the construction worker hugging President Bush almost to the point of pain garnered genuine laughter here in the press center. Rudy just knows how to tell a story.
