Democrats in a race for a state House seat in District 82, are circulating a flyer that shows a retarded child with President Bush’s face running in a track race. The headline says: “Voting for Bush Is Like Running In The Special Olympics: Even If You Win, You’re Still Retarded.”

I realize this is a strikingly important election, and passions are running high, and tempers are flaring... but must these campaigns be run by utterly repugnant human beings? Is there really no attack too low, too juvenile, too tasteless to use?

The flyer is being distributed by Democrat Craig Fitzhugh.

Is he proud? Does he look himself in the mirror and like what he sees? Does he sleep easily at night, knowing that his road to victory includes comparing of his opponent's supporters to mentally retarded kids?

Is Craig Fitzhugh a man? I mean, really. I'm sure he meets the biological criteria, but by the standards of our culture, can anyone who campaigns for office like this be called a man?
