Graceless, As Usual
The executive aligns with the understudy's destructive legal jihad.

lorida's certification of George W. Bush as the winner of the state's electoral votes offered the Clinton administration a choice: They could behave — at long last — in the best interests of the country, or like unprincipled, petty partisans. The road less taken by the Clinton crowd remains untrodden.

Yesterday, one of the President's brats responded to Dick Cheney's request for transition resources. White House Chief of Staff John Podesta sneered, "'Vice-President-elect,' as he likes to be called, Cheney, better go back and actually look at the statute." One of the worst features of the Clinton administration has been the crass, contemptuous hired help. As Vice President-elect Cheney would say, "It's time for them to go." The president has now aligned the executive branch with his understudy's destructive legal jihad to overturn the results of the election, at the expense of a smooth transition. Having thoroughly abused and demeaned his office during his tenure, Bill Clinton clearly intends to step aside gracelessly — just as he has served.
