Literary Schadenfreude

Someone at Gawker is cheered that my book’s been remaindered somewhere:

In other words: $4.99 on the bargain table at St. Mark’s Bookstore, sucker! You’ll never get an exorbitant advance again! How do you like that, bitch? Yeah!

Uh huh. Just so you know, it’s hardly as if being remaindered 10 months after pub date is all that bad. The book was a #1 NYT and Amazon bestseller, translated into various languages and the Bookscan # is around 107,000 last I checked (which means actual sales are closer to 140K in hardcover). It’s not like my book’s fizzled like, say, Bill Keller’s or Matt Yglesias’. If I can repeat this sort of failure for the rest of my career, I’ll be delighted.
