I remember when I pointed out to a famous TV personality who gave me a rough time on TV about my book that liberals who cry fascism at conservatives — with the goofiest of arguments — are treated respectfully by the mainstream media, he insisted that wasn’t true. I said what about Naomi Wolfe? (Her book is idiotic, irresponsible and grotesquely sweeping in ways mine doesn’t even come close to being. She says that America is literally like 1930s Germany, with all the moral horror that implies. I say nothing like that in mine. Moreover, I consult mainstream academic literature to make my points. She just conjures paranoid fantasies. I indict my own side, as it were. I concede over and over again that today’s liberals are often decent and well-intentioned. She sees the world through a purely manichean prism of Good versus Evil, in much the same way paranoid Nazis did). Anyway, the funnyman’s response (from memory): Yeah, but she’s crazy and nobody takes her seriously.
Behold Naomi Wolfe on the Today Show prattling on about the “fascist shift.”
