Shiflett is a self-employed writer. His work has appeared in the Wall
Street Journal, Smart Money, Reader’s Digest, Good
Housekeeping, Salon.com, National Review, The New
Democrat, The American Spectator, Travel & Leisure,
The Manchester Guardian, the Telegraph Papers, Utne Reader,
the Los Angeles Times, Food and Wine, The Oxford American,
The Weekly Standard, and other publications.
He is the author of The
America We Deserve (with Donald Trump) and is the co-author of
the upcoming Christianity
on Trial (Encounter Books). His work has also been included in
various anthologies. He previously worked as a columnist and editor at
the Rocky Mountain News in Denver (1989–1995) and on the editorial
page of the Washington Times (1983–1986). He was a Reagan
administration appointee from 1986–1989 as director of communications
at the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
He has one wife, two sons, and plays guitar in three bands.
