Radar Online is reporting that a bunch of Hollywood’s elite are being sued in connection with their participation in high-stakes poker games. The civil complaint alleges that the money won by said Hollywood elite was actually money stolen by a hedge-fund manager from his clients to pay off his enormous gambling debts. According to the report, Toby “Spider-Man” Maguire was the big winner making $1,000,000 a month in winnings.
Interesting. Maybe the next time Maguire is in D.C. for a photo-op with President Obama, he can explain to the president why he’s exempt from paying his fair share of taxes on the winnings — you know, to spread the wealth — or stop by the I.R.S. and drop off a check.

Yes, yes, yes! Squeeze those tax cheats!
We want a big and muscular IRS collecting taxes that are justly due. Honest citizens who pay their taxes have nothing to lose.

"With great power comes great responsibility"
Sorry :)
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYou really believe no conservatives are involved in private poker games?
Also, do note that the story says not a word about taxes. There's no reason to think they weren't paying taxes on the money. You made that up entirely.
The only person in the story known to have stolen any money they were obligated to hold for someone else was the embezzler - a hedge-fund manager, not traditionally a profession associated with "leftists".
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIt isn't?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYeah, leftists don't typically become hedge fund managers!
They are more likely the operators of pottery barns and pita wrap sandwich joints!
Sorry, but I just thought one uninformed stereotypical comment deserved another.
Exactly what mechanism did you use to boldly state the voting and contribution habits of hedge fund managers? My statement about pottery barns came from visits to Brown County, Indiana and Yellow Springs, Ohio.
I think if you Google "hedge fund managers democrats", your first hit will show the top 10 managers donated almost exclusively to Democrats in 2009.
Most subsequent hits will back that up.
Why? Because people like that don't want limited government. They want government they can purchase, use, and manipulate. Therefore, they give heavily to Democrats.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWealthy Hollywood liberals who lecture others on the virtue of paying higher taxes hide income to avoid paying taxes on it. And here's another shocker. More than a few Hollywood liberals maintain their legal residences in states other than California so they don't have to pay the high taxes there. But they're sorry and they give lots of money to charity and Democrats, so let's move on.
Those whose automatic response to any wrong doing by liberals is "Republicans do it, too" must have forgotten the liberal creed. People who promote certain values and principles are fair game to be judged by those values and principles. Thus, conservative Republicans get rougher treatment for cheating on their wives than do Democrats. Republicans don't promote higher taxes for the wealthy, liberal Democrats do, so in accordance with their own rule, these guys are much worse than Republicans who gamble and don't pay their taxes.
