Rush Limbaugh took up the Herman Cain story today. He opened his broadcast by pointing out that,
None of us should be surprised . . . look how quickly the mainstream media goes for the ugliest, racial stereotypes they can to attack a black conservative . . . Herman Cain is somebody. Herman Cain is obviously making some people nervous for this kind of thing to happen.
One of Rush’s key points centered on the differences in treatment of Herman Cain and Bill Clinton. He pointed out that, “if this were about Clinton, the Left would be circling the wagons. This story is a joke that can only be appreciated by Clinton.” While “[Herman Cain is accused of] physical gestures which were not overly sexual but made women uncomfortable . . . during the 1992 Presidential campaign, there were all sorts of bimbos who were claiming that Clinton had done things to them, like rape, not just made overtly sexual gestures . . . these women were silenced.”
Rush illustrated the hypocrisy in the different approaches by the media regarding this issue by postulating how it would treat a similar allegation against President Obama:
What would the Left be doing right now if there was an assault on Obama of this nature? They would be going after these women; they would name names, and destroy them. They would call these women racists for trying to destroy a black politician; they would claim they were working for the Republican National Committee, that they were hired by the Republican National Committee to destroy Obama. They would claim they were the bad guys. . . . This is war, and that’s how they fight it. Anything goes, as far as they’re concerned. They can’t allow a black or Hispanic to rise to the top.
On the last point, he called the story “gutter partisan politics” aimed at “minority conservative destruction.” “This is about blacks and Hispanics getting uppity,” he continued. “[The Left] cannot have a black Republican running for office, can’t have a Hispanic, the Left owns those minorities, those two groups can’t be seen rising on their own.”
