MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts criticized one of Mitt Romney’s recent slogans, saying “so you may not hear Mitt romney saying ‘keep America American’anymore,” because it was used in the early 1900s by the Ku Klux Klan.
It’s probably worth noting that, even if progressives might conflate, say, Romney’s position on illegal immigration with the KKK’s nativism, he wasn’t discussing immigration or American national character, but rather, the American spirit of free enterprise. His ad, below, argues that “we will keep America American by retaining its character as a land of opportunity. We’ll welcome the inventor, the entrepreneur, the innovator.”
The man who made his money outsourcing American jobs telling us that we need to keep America American. Now that's rich.
