Rush Doesn’t Like Us At the Moment

At the start of Rush Limbaugh’s show today:

Establishment Republicans are dumping on Newt all over the place. NATIONAL REVIEW came out last night with an editorial, Buckley’s magazine, it used to be conservative. They didn’t recommend anybody, just not Newt — no way Newt — they implied Romney, of course, but they didn’t endorse him…they ruled out Perry and Bachmann…it was just anti-Newt.

Good for Rush and precisely correct -- I'm listening to him right now. Such refreshing sense -- and conservative too, which is always a plus for media purporting to be conservative.

Rivendell, Agreed. Romney just flip-flopped on gays in the military. NRO doesn't care. They flip-flopped last year without telling anyone by just assiduously avoiding the issue.
Rush is right: NRO is not conservative any more. It consists of establishment, polite society, cocktail party Republicans with one exception: Steyn.

Perhaps the worst off all, the superficial stereotyping is truly embarrassing.

Cocktail Party Republicans?

You mean "rich"?

The class warfare is ugly, and not conservative at all.

Rush is wrong. He has been playing fashion based politics overtly since 2006. His ugly populism is rampant, it isn't conservatism, just a cheap play on Our Base.

No real conservative plays divisive stereotypes. They don't engage in the same populism which divides with 'class' or 'establishment' warfare. It is a sign of the very worst offering of all.

The implication of the cheap labeling is another bad sign, as if Rush can say the NR is not "conservative". It is pure sophistry. Rush long ago blew in the winds, afraid of leading after 2006 for at the time he too was being called a "traitor" by the misguided fashion. Rush couldn't handle the rejection, he retreated and ceded a leadership role.

His offering has sunk my diddos repeatedly over the past two years, as he is so desperate to placate instead of lead. The populist nonsense is just a sign of the dysfunction he is enabling and promoting. The failure is enormous, as he helped enable the Delaware Debacle - now he does the same for a tired Beltway Insider who was taking 1.8 Million via Fannie and Freddie.

It isn't conservative, it is a desperate ploy for acceptance, ratings, fashion. The EIB is tanking, becoming a parody on par with Hot Air. It is sad to see. Being such a fan of Rush, the Captain, etc. But the fashion is decidedly misguided and lost.

If there's one lesson learned so far in this primary, it's that talk radio is the only part of the media that's legitimately conservative.

Well no...

Rush and Hannity are just placating voices in a manner in which they are playing to a crowd. That isn't conservative at all.

Conservatism is using reason, basis, logic, fact, objectivity, honesty, etc.

Much of the radio has turned to rank populism, dividing all with a fake 'establishment warfare' game. Anyone pitting the folks vs. them is not engaged in sound conservatism. Conservatives just don't engage in this cheap form of politics. This is what Obama is doing, offering class warfare, making a mythic enemy out of the rich.

Rush makes an enemy out of the so-called 'establishment, using ugly terms like "blue blood" and "ruling class"?

It is as if the participation on Family Guy warped his mind. But it is clear, he is no longer leading, just following in the worst manner possible.

Rush is correct. When WFB was around, NR was decidedly Conservative. Now it leans to Republican establishment. Not full blown appeasement Republican, more like the voice of the slightly right-of-center Republicans.

This is exactly right. Bunch of fancy lads.

Rush is wrong as are all the blithering Gingrich supporters. Objectively speaking, Romney has staked out far more conservative positions than Gingrich. As for the "flip-flop" label, Gingrich has waffled and shifted positions every bit as much as Romney ever has--the difference is Gingrich has flipped leftward on critical issues like entitlement reform.

face it, Limbaugh is the only person being disingenuous. he is friends with Gingrich and protestations to the contrary, fully backs him.

so vote for Romney, he's the authentic flip-flopper, is your argument ?

Romney has NO record of conservative legislation ... none, zero, nada, zilch .... sure he's now got conservative talking points ... but so does Newt ... and the thing is Newt doesn't have any liberal legislative policies chained to his leg like RomneyCare ...

You all do realize the one thing that Romney has refuse to flip flop on is ROMNEYCARE ... the one thing he is digging in his heels on is progressive legislation ...

DorsaiGuy, Totally correct. "Freddy" is impressed that "Romney has staked out" conservative positions. Staked out. Wow.
Romney just flip-flopped on gays in the military, for anyone who is keeping track of his talk. Most of us care more about WALK than talk but carry on Freddy, NRO needs readers like you.

Which is why, of course, you support Bachman, Santorum or Perry. Since Gingrich and Romney are clearly the mushy middle, you would naturally support Bachmann, Santorum or Perry.

On some issues Gingrich is marginally more conservative than Romney. On other issues it's the other way around.

Neither Romney nor Gingrich are conservative.

LOL!

Just a little while ago, MarkW was pushing for Gingrich, with an overt, unhealthy bias against Mr. Romney.

What has changed?

The hype which went from Trump to the next flop after flop is abandoning Newt?

The offering is so funny, as it is now trying still to debase the only sound Private Sector Product remaining in the GOP Primary. A serious Free Market CEO who is proven, and has a stellar record.

It is no wonder why Ann Coulter, Sen. Thune, Gov. Haley, Sheriff Babeu, Gov. Christie, Jack Welch, the Oklahoman, etc., all are wisely endorsing Mr. Romney. The Examiner says it well:
"» Second, our economy is broken. Based on his long years of experience creating thousands of jobs here in the private sector, Romney knows how to fix the economy. As he says every day on the campaign trail, "government doesn't create jobs, the private sector does." To that end, he promises to cut individual and corporate taxes, reform the tax code to encourage growth and investment, and expand free trade. He pledges to slash unnecessary federal regulation and unleash America's vast energy resources to create jobs and free us from dependence on nations that are hostile to our country. He will, in short, follow in Reagan's footsteps to get America working again."

I enjoy Rush, but he's full of it here. This is the same man who last spring was bashing Newt as an apostate and a sell-out during the Paul Ryan flap.

Did you get the idea that Rush is endorsing Newt?

Not just Rush.

If y'all are successful in forcing Romney down our thoats, Ron Paul will start to look very attractive. If all conservatives are unacceptable, then we might as well send a crazy guy who will try to do he promises.

I'm sure Romney's already got a speech ready for the day after he's president, probably written by the same guy who wrote Clinton's "Tried harder than I've tried to do anything in my life" speech. He just won't be able to kill Obamacare or reverse all the EPA CO2 wackiness. Just won't be able to do it. In the words of another guy y'all probably admire, "It wouldn't be prudent."

I suggest you NRO guys read Lewis' That Hideous Strength," looking for comments about McPhee. In particular, "You couldn't have a better man at your side in a losing battle." You guys will be a great help as conservatism is swept into the dust bin of history. But you won't do anything to prevent that.
