Alan Colmes Apologizes to Rick Santorum

I’m not sure I’d be as classy as Santorum has been about it, however.

Just for the record, it was not that long ago in this country that wakes were held in the home. My husbands grandfather died in 1961 and the wake was in their home. It would seem that what the Santorum family chose to do was an extremely personal decision that they felt reflected their spiritual and religious beliefs. To suggest that this would somehow damage their children is as absurd and mean spirited as Alan Colmes. It reflects a denial of death. The Santorum's Christian belief does, of course, represent life after death and hope for the afterlife.

You don't have to believe this, however it is highly arrogant to suggest that this belief is idiotic. Like most far left liberals with this elitist attitude, Colmes is not "inclusive" in any way except when it comes to left wing views. He attacks the Santorum family regarding thier tragedy because he does not like their faith and political views. Santorum forgave him because he lives his Christian faith which teaches forgiveness and redemption. I applaud him for his character and faith, and admire him for his ability to forgive Colmes. I'm not sure I could have done the same.

What was so sick about this was Colmes opening, planned statement. O'Reilly always says what a good guy he is...I no longer buy that. Kudos to Rich for calming taking him on.

Colmes needs to apologize publicly, on the same nationally-seen show where he made his despicable comments.

The *worst* of it was his characterization of what the Santorums did as "playing with" their dead son. With the choice of words he certainly did trivialize - and yes, "mock" - their actions. It would have been bad enough just to point the event out as something that many people would find odd (which is no doubt true), but to deliberately use the word "play" - which conjurs up images of Santorum sitting the child up in his lap and waving his arms like a doll - is simply beyond the pale.

Nonetheless, I disagree with those who say we should behave like the left-wing thought police and demand that Colmes be fired or sent on a grovelling, penitential tour of conservative talk shows and speaking engagements to Christian groups. I say leave him on the air and let him continue to show what a jack*** he is. It is certainly the case that Rick Santorum proved himself the better and classier man in this dust-up, but how hard is that really when you're up against Alan Colmes. It isn't like he sets the class and humanity bar very high. ;-)

Regards,

Joe

Neither would I. Colmes obviously is unaware that there has always been a practice of taking the deceased home for the wake and time of grieving by the family. For him to describe this as the Santorum family "playing" with the dead chid is beneath contempt. I hope Colmes never again makes an appearance on Fox News. His kind belong to msnbc.

P.S.

The reason Colmes "went there" is clear enough. The incident reminds him of the Santorum's reverence for life. For people who defend the Absolute Right to Abortion the way Colmes does, it is a dogma that "fetuses" who die before, during or just after birth don't really "count". That way they can support abortion, partial birth abortion and passive murder (like sticking an abortion survivor in a drawer and letting it die, Obama's preferred method) and still think of themselves as good people.

To name a child thatis delivered dead or dies shortly thereafter, to have a formal burial and inscribe the name on a headstone and in the family Bible, to remind the other children of that brief life, these are all strange acts, like the curious rituals of some aboriginal tribe. Most of all they are to be condemned because they invite the thought that if *these* children are human, maybe those killed in the womb when they were a few days or weeks or months younger might *also* have some claim on humanity.

And if that's the case, there might be a moral dimension to abortion - and that's something the Alan Colmes of the world cannot face. Hence his reflexive lashing out, even to the point of mocking the Santorum's grief.

Colmes is almost a parody of the snide, snarky white liberal. But this isn't news. It has been his act for many years now.

While I defend Lowry's crucial and blistering attack on the extremely insensitive and stupid remarks by Colmes, I wish he'd have let the idiot speak and hang himself by his own rope. I'm sure that whatever contrived excuse he would have predictably given for his comments would be just as morally deplorable as the comments themselves.

But I'm also with Lowry: Let him have it!

Well said. Liberals all prefere to slam by inference, without backup.

It will be interesting to see how Colmes continues to cover Santorum, since Santorum showed such restraint and maturity in response.

Would you continue to hack at a man who spared you a public humiliation?
