Obama at Disney

As the president is going to Disney today to pitch tourism jobs, I took a look at what kind of jobs are available at Disney World. Here are the latest postings from Disney’s website:

All part time with no mention of health benefits.

Dear Mr. President: These are not the jobs Americans are looking for.

The types of jobs that are created by tourism and gambling are for the most part, minimum wage, part time, temporary, entry level jobs. There aren't generally enough upper level jobs for people to move into. So you have to move on to a different industry. Which is a problem when that's the only industry in town. These jobs at best should be summer jobs for teenagers, to learn about the working world.

But yet, those are the jobs that are created when government pushes for these "developments". And they always think they are the ones that will somehow manage to turn those jobs into high paying ones for adults. It never works, and never will.

Don't get me wrong, Disney can be a great company to work for, IF you can move up. However most people cannot plan their careers on getting lucky in the workplace, and at places like that you have to be "lucky".
