President Obama recently conducted a conference call with Christian leaders, during which he repeated several questionable-to-false claims about his health care overhaul plan. Adopting religious language, Obama accused opponents of “bearing false witness” regarding various details of the legislation. One of the so-called “lies” being perpetuated, he explained, involves abortion:
“We’ve heard that this is all going to mean government funding of abortion. Not true.”
Health care legislation before Congress would allow a new government-sponsored insurance plan to cover abortions, a decision that would affect millions of women and recast federal policy on the divisive issue.
Neither does Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), who bragged to constituents that taxpayer-subsidized abortion is, and should be, in the bill:
Americans United For Life also dug up footage of candidate Obama promising Planned Parenthood in 2007 that reproductive health services (ie, abortion) will be “at the heart” of his health care plan.
