Jacko and the Death of Newspapers

Text

Sarah Knoploh reports that even some national newspapers can’t be bothered to cover the House “cap and trade” bill. Friday’s USA Today was filled to the familiar blue rim with Michael Jackson stories, but couldn’t manage a cap-and-trade story on the day of the House vote.

On Friday and Monday, USA Today produced two articles on cap and trade – “Analysis: Climate Change Bill Major Victory for Obama” and “Obama Urges Senate to Act on Climate Change Bill” — but they were only online, not in USA Today On Dead Tree.

Remember this when someone mourns about the vital importance of newspapers in informing the citizenry — and if that someone says McPaper doesn’t count, then suggest to them that competition from McPaper might be one reason the local rag has a smaller circulation.
