Obama Disses the iPad and iPhone

Politico on Obama’s address at Hampton College on Sunday:

“You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t rank all that high on the truth meter,” said Obama, who’s been critical of high-velocity news outlets, including POLITICO, CNN and Fox News, which administration officials have long accused of tilting right.

“With iPods and iPads, Xboxes and PlayStations, information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment,” Obama told the graduates of the historically black college in Virginia, whose first classes were taught in 1861 under the “Emancipation Tree,” a campus oak tree.

This from a guy who developed his own logo, a la the iconic “apple” of Apple Computer, announced his Veep selection via a text-message gimmick, and is the creator of a White House iPhone app.

And since when is having access to information a distraction?
