Have French authorities rightly cracked down on a network of airport baggage handlers who are Islamist sympathizers, or are they engaging in anti-Muslim discrimination?
Here’s the story. Almost any way you look at it, this seems like bad news for France. Airports must be secured. Yet it’s equally important that Muslim immigrants and their descendents break the cycle of unemployment and social alienation. If many Muslim employees can no longer be trusted, it will make it that much tougher to solve the unemployment problem, which in turn will fuel Islamist sympathies, which in turn will mean more unemployment problems. Not a pretty picture.
