“Brownback was shocked to hear that abortion was so prevalent, that a 14-year-old girl could have an abortion without her parents knowing, and that the procedure was legal up to the minute of birth (which is not, in fact, true).”

Yes, I did catch that line, and decided to ignore it. But the emailer is correct; Brownback was right, and Scheiber wrong. It’s not just that late-term abortion is theoretically legal everywhere in this country thanks to the Supreme Court, although it is. It is also practiced: Dr. George Tiller’s Wichita clinic is a notorious provider of second- and third-trimester abortions.
