Pakistan may be preparing for an offensive against Islamist militants in the tribal regions. At least that’s what the Times of India is reporting. If true, this would be excellent news. Yet note that the offensive described here would be against recent Islamist gains in Swat. It makes sense to begin with Swat, yet even a successful offensive there would be a far cry from cleaning out the key sanctuaries in North and South Waziristan. So even if an attack is underway, it will take some time to make out exactly how extensive any move against the Islamists may be.
(By the way, for history buffs, Babe Ruth was once the sultan of Swat.)
