President Obama stepped to the podium at 5:12 P.M. After a few complimentary remarks about Pittsburgh, the site of the G-20 summit, he spoke about the economy and his administration’s stimulus efforts.
Then, on Iran: “Iran is on notice,” says Obama. “When we meet with them on October 1st, they will have to come clean and make a choice: Are they willing to go down the path of giving up nuclear weapons and deciding to abide by international rules in pursuit of peaceful nuclear energy? Or, will they continue down a path that leads to confrontation? What has changed is that the international community has spoken. Now it’s up to Iran to respond. I’m not going to speculate on the course of action that we will take. I will give October 1st a chance.”
