DNC chair and Florida representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz told Roland Martin yesterday that Republicans “want to literally drag us all the way back to Jim Crow laws and literally — and very transparently — block access to the polls to voters who are more likely to vote Democratic candidates than Republican candidates.” Wasserman Schultz also claims that voter photo-ID laws are similar to poll taxes. Barely two weeks ago, former DNC interim chair Donna Brazile made a similar charge in a USA Today column.
Clearly, the charge will be a Democratic theme for the 2012 campaign. When the race card is played this early in the campaign cycle, there’s also a good likelihood it will be played often.
This campaign will not be pretty.
